Mr. Sherlock Holmes

Some of you may or may not know we foster Labrador retrievers for a breed rescue in our area. Well, last night we got a call that a new foster dog came in. A top investigator named Sherlock Holmes (the humane society named him that)…
What that means is the breed rescue gets calls all over the state from humane societies or owners surrendering their dogs up for adoption. What is very cool about this rescue is that volunteers go screen potential dogs, (and later potential new owners), pick them up from a shelter, and find “foster” homes for them to live in until the dogs find what they call their “forever parents”. There is a network of more than 100 volunteers doing all this. Amazing stuff.
This is our second time around as foster parents so we are still relatively new with all this. Our last dog Hershey was a doll and yes, it was really hard to let go, but you know they are going to good homes with people that really want to have and love a dog. And we constantly remind ourselves that someone did that with LuLu and if it wasn’t for their kind efforts, we wouldn’t have someone to love like we do.
I was out last night with a friend when our new pup was dropped off, but understand he was quite the gentlemen upon first arrival. He is a super sweet 4 yr old yellow lab but also pretty scrawny as he was a stray. And he needs to work on his “manners” a tad. We all went for a walk this morning (my husband, LuLu, Sherlock and myself) and he did really well on his gentle leader. This morning wasn’t so hot at 3:30AM because he had to go out and then again at 7:00AM, but that is understandable with all the stress he has probably had to deal with. He was in the humane society for about a month or so and those are noisy and somewhat traumatic places for a dog. So we will see how tonight goes as he is learning the ropes of crate training.

How’s it going? When he tries to go potty in the house do you say, “No sh*t Sherlock!”?

Commenting is not available in this section entry.Hah! That is funny. But no potty in the house, since day one in fact. He is a very good boy and we will be sad to see him go :(
